Break from posts for the week

Hi everyone! I am going to be taking a break this week from my regular posts to catch up with all the lovely blogs I follow as well as to check out some new blogs I’ve found on the blog hops I’ve been taking part in. I also will be catching up on YouTube. So basically, it’ll just be a vacation week so I can recuperate, collect my thoughts and get back to interacting with other bloggers.

I already have a post for today up which is just a haul, but there will be no more posts until Saturday, where I’ll show you pics from my 2 year anniversary :). I’ll still be replying to comments and such, so if you want to leave your blog or YouTube links, feel free to do so. (I may not follow everyone back though, just a quick disclaimer)

Ta-ta for this week, I hope you won’t mind the break too much!

See you Saturday 🙂

Collective Beauty Haul | Beauty

Hey all! I have a haul for you. It’s been a while since I went into Collins and bought actual makeup. Typically I’d get skincare, snacks and other random things from there. But since I really needed to repurchase a lip balm and the Baby Lip was in stock, I was also tempted by the new Maybelline and L’Oreal displays, I took the opportunity to get some stuff to try out during October.

So here’s the stuff I got from Collin’s Pharmacy. I’ll be reviewing the L’Oreal True Match Foundation and the concealer. These are my first foundations from this brand and I’ve heard plenty rave about them. I wonder how they’ll hold up to our climate. I already reviewed the Maybelline Baby Lips in Peppermint here, but I also picked up Pink Punch to try out.

I also needed some hair things, so I got these neutral hair ties, some hair elastics (not pictured) and… I found these velcro hair bows which you use if you’re washing your face, applying make up etc so your hair isn’t in your face, but it isn’t clipped back to get a kink in it. I used to see so many Asian YouTube beauty girls use these, I lusted them for ever. So far so good, they actually stay in my hair. I might review them, so tell me if you’d like me to do that.

I also got this 120 colour BH Cosmetics palette, along with a glitter and one of the BH Cosmetics waterproof eye liners from a really good friend of mine, thanks Sam! I can’t wait try out some really crazy makeup looks with them. I don’t know if I’ll post any to be honest though. I’ll have to see just how well they come out.

L.A Girls Pro.Conceal HD Concealer Review | Guest Post

Hey all! Today I have a Guest post from a fellow Caribbean blogger!! (Woot woot big up all the Caribbean bloggers out there!) JM or Makeup Hungry is a blogger from Trinidad and she’s going to be reviewing a coveted concealer here in the Barbados (as far as I know). I’ve also heard some dark skinned Youtubers rave about this. I must say, her review has me tempted to get it!

You can find Makeup Hungry on her blog or Facebook page, so drop by and leave her a comment!

Hello Everyone!
I know I know. It has been a while. I have all this time and I haven’t been blogging much at all.
Today I am actually going to review a concealer, that was actually one of the first concealers I ever purchased, simply out of natural born curiousity. I was in Wonderful World saw the display and just selected the one that looked closest to my shade. I bought this concealer 2 years ago but this week I picked up a fresh batch of this concealer as well as in two additional different shades. I bought two (Toast and Chestnut at the Wonderful World Trincity mall branch next to Sincerely Yours yesterday and today I purchased Toffee from the WW branch next to Sports and Games in Trincity Mall. Originally yesterday I went to the branch closed to Sports and Games didn’t see the shades I wanted and ended up in the one adjacent to Sincerely Yours. I purchased other items which I had previously owned up I will review those in upcoming posts.
So lets just jump right into this review.

Description:
According to the company’s website:
Crease-resistant, opaque coverage in a creamy yet lightweight texture. The long-wearing formula camouflages darkness under the eyes, redness and skin imperfections. Provides complete, natural-looking coverage, evens skin tone, covers dark circles and minimizes fine lines around the eyes.

Packaging:
So it comes in a squeeze tube with a white brush that could be used for application. The tube appears clear with black writing. When products come to brush applicators are always find them unhigneic as I am of the belief that the concealer that was squeezed out from previous use can remain and along with it bacterial and dirt. Additionally, the brush being stained brown does not appeal to me. I simply think it looks GROSS.

With that being said I can see many individuals loving this packaging. The brush makes it easy to apply on to the face for your own person use. I started using this two (2) years so I can’t recall having to deal with water coming out with the concealer it self. I may have to check when I open my new tube of Toast and the other shades. The packaging makes it quite portable as you can just pop it into your makeup bag, section in your handbag and take it with you to work or on while traveling. I actually kept my old one in my makeup bag which I carried with me to school.

Product:

At first I wasn’t too familiar with concealers so I was expecting a thick almost glue like product so when this concealer felt like just a heavy duty foundation I was dishearted. When I familiarized myself with the product I fell madly in love. This as I stated in the beginning was my first concealer ever, I had been into makeup for years but the only concealer I ever had before this was a really thick concealer that was pale and smelt like lipsticks from the past with that pungent cow feces smell.
But once you get the hang of it you will see the beauty of this concealer. It has a light weight feel but can cover blemishes beautifully. It is the only concealer that was able to cover my dark circles without me having to go over it several times. It is simply amazing.
The concealer dries to a matte finish rather quickly so you have to blend it in right away. For those of you have ever used the Revlon Colorstay Liquid foundation, it has a consistency similar to that foundation. They both dry to matte finish right away so must be quick with your application.
Once you get the hang of it, you will love it.
My shades range from Chestnut and Toast. I know some people mix them but for me I feel like either one can be used for my entire face depending on where it is applied and what look I am going for.
Toffee is perfect for that Kim Kardashian highlight effect I may want to achieve. I can do that with Toast as well if I want lightness under my eye without being dramatic. Toast is light enough to go under my eyes but blends in perfectly to the rest of my skin. I know weird right. Some thing about it has a light look to it but at the same time has a dark undertone.
This concealer comes in eighteen beautiful shades so it is quite easy to find your exact match or you can mix them as well to get the shade you may desire. It is so affordable it wouldn’t break your pocket.
It comes with 0.25oz of product. It is cruelty free and last eighteen (18) months from the day it is opened.

For shade swatches I would recommend going to cosmeticcandyfyi’s blog. She has swatches of all eighteen (18) shades. They are clear so it would be super easy to find the shade you may which to purchase. If not you can buy 2-3 to get your perfect shades. They are so inexpensive.
L.A Girl Pro.Conceal HD. high-definition concealer in Toast under my eyes set with L’oreal Translucide in Deep.
Price:
This can be purchased at any branch of Wonderful World Accessories in Trinidad and Tobago for $15 dollars. For US beauty lovers it can be bought online at ikatehouse.com for $1.99 each, which has 17 out of the 18 shades. They do not have Fawn on their website. (Which is a shame because many NW45 NC50 girls on Youtube use Fawn as their highlight, Fawn has beautiful yellow undertone that would be perfect as a highlight. There are other shades that can substitute for Fawn).
Cherry culture.com also has the concealer and right now selling it for half off for $2.50 each.
Beauty joint as well sells them at $2.50 each.
And of course, you can purchase them on the L.A girl website for its original price at $5.00 each.

Here are the links to purchase them if you are not a Trinidad and Tobago citizen or have no access to Wonderful World:

Happy 3rd Birthday to the Chrisamor Goodie Jar!

HIIII!!! My blog’s finally 3 years old, hehe it’s still my baby though :). I’ve only recently started posting more often (schedule in the sidebar), participating in blog hops and other communities with fellow bloggers, so in this 3rd year of blogging (especially the summer months) there’s been quite a lot of growth.  Photos are from some of my favourite posts for this year, by the way.

In person, I’m not the most warm and sociable person you would meet, but get me started on a topic and I could go on for ages! Although I’m still very much an introvert (and I swear I experience the oddest things when it comes to humans), this blog has allowed me to reach further than I’ve even imagined myself or my thoughts going. This year, my blog reached persons in U.S.A, Russia, Germany, Canada, France and even parts of Asia! Who’d had thought, right? I keep telling myself that it can’t be true, it feels so surreal. Even my blog views increased during summer, where I tried to push as much new content as possible. I was scared it was just me clicking to view my blog way too often and causing the views to go up, but turns out it wasn’t just me. The hard work of going the extra mile for posts, even outside of my comfort zone and networking with other bloggers worked out.

I’ve noticed an increase in followers on all fronts, GFC, G+ (though I still am figuring that out still), Bloglovin’, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter. I am trying to stay on top of all of those, however I don’t talk about beauty 24/7 on my social media. I have to thank you those who do follow my blog, social networks, and those who are reading this, for taking the time out of your day to actually read my blog and comment too. Oh I love comments, even if it’s not a positive one! Let’s be real here, we can’t always agree on everything.

I especially want to thank persons like Jen, Sarah and Angie who allow people like me to be a co-host in their amazing blog hop and for others like Melissa from TGL who also has a really good hop going every Wednesday! I’ve been invited to some others, but I really don’t know how well I’d be able to keep up with some many blog hops, but in time I will get there. Especially if I have more time after the semester is over. ^__^ Also I want to thank the lovely girls I collaborated with over the summer, and the great people who I met around the blogging community.

Thank you to my supportive friends who silently read my blog (I see you P, hahah) and also to my babe Tyrell, who’s always trying to make sure I have photos for my posts, helping me with the outfit posts and sometimes even suggesting what I write about, that’s always funny. He has really good ideas though!

Look out for a giveaway coming for not only my blog’s birthday but my birthday too. October is a fabulous month! Sorry September, not enough love for you haha.

Upcoming Blog Anniversary & Giveaway!

Hey all! Apologies for this not being one of the posts scheduled for today but, what the hey.

Click the button to check out the WWBH!

You may have realised the widget in the sidebar about my blog anniversary, but if you haven’t it’s tomorrow! I’m not as excited as I thought I would be about it. I wanted to have a lot more sorted out. I wanted to redecorate my blog a bit, but some how, the time has slipped away. AND I really want to have a giveaway (hopefully international), but my thoughts are a bit scattered on what to giveaway, despite pondering it so long.

I don’t think I mentioned this but, the more expensive months are settling in. September to December are a slew of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, meaning lots of spending. BUT I still want to get you lovely readers something good, you know? I thought a giftcard to a beauty site which ships internationally would be very appropriate, but at the same time it feels very impersonal.

If you have and suggestions for giveaway prizes, comment them below! I may be able to have something huge (for me at least) by October as it is my birth month too. So we’ll just be celebrating all-round in the Goodie Jar! Can’t wait to hear your suggestions!

Smashbox Cream blush Dupe! | Beauty

It’s not often that I have high-end make up, but when I do, I think it’s interesting to compare the dupe-ability to the drugstore/ affordable options I might also have. Funny enough, I got this Smashbox Cream Cheek Color in the same gift set as the eyeshadow reviewed here, then when I received my e.l.f order, I realised this colour looks awfully familiar.  So I put them side by side. Looking like a dupe.. yip! It’s close! (Sadly I think the Smashbox is unavailable now.)

In the packaging they look almost the same, but when swatched they appear a bit different. Captivate (Smashbox) is a lighter peachy pink colour, but with similar undertones to Superstar (e.l.f.).

Both are a warm rose, although superstar is a bit brighter but blended out, each give a nice flushed look. They also contain some reflects, to give a bit of a glow to the skin without looking like a glittery mess.they’re also a semi-matte finish. I love that both of them are so long wearing too (4+ hours).

You would probably end up wasting more of Superstar because of the packaging, and just how pigmented even a half pump of this blush is. Like the tiniest of amounts still seems like too much. While Captivate is a bit more forgiving as it is a bit sheerer.

I like the packaging on both of these products, and couldn’t say I’d change either of them as it wouldn’t make much of a difference to the product. I use both of interchangeably, but to be brutal, I’d pick the Captivate because it’s so much easier to apply without overdosing on colour.

Disclaimer: These products were bought with my money. Opinions are my own.

Smashbox Cream Cheek Color in Captivate | Swatches

Hey all! Today I’m showing you swatches of this gorgeous cream blush from Smashbox in the colour Captivate. It definitely has to my heart…I’m in love with is. Such as easy wearing blush, especially on my skin tone I think, it gives they prettiest glow and flush of colour.

I was going to do a more in depth review of this, but since this product is no longer available I’ll just be just showing swatches and also posting a dupe I found of this blush in the following post.

I did happen to find this blush available here though.

Happy Friday and Happy Anniversary! :) | Aloha Friday Blog Hop

Aloha pretties! I’m in a splendid mood this Friday. Although the week has been buzzing by, I think I’ve kept relatively on schedule and productive, to the point I could chill at least one night this week! Studying has been going well, though sometimes you just don’t have the drive for it. But you must push on, it’s not the time to turn back!

Tomorrow will be my relationship’s 2 year anniversary :). I hope everything comes off well and it isn’t too rainy. We’re going quite laid back this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to take some pictures of where we go for the blog or Instagram.

I hope you all have been having a good week and be sure to have a lovely Friday! Don’t forget to add your blog to the hop and share as well!

My Eyebrow Routine | Beauty

Hey all, today I’m going to show you have I groom and fill-in my brows. As I said in my Beauty Weakness post, I’m no expert on brows, I struggle to keep mine looking tidy for that matter. But I do like to keep them looking as natural as possible. I have fairly thick eyebrows which taper off to almost no hair at the ends, so that is my biggest problem. Also as I wear glasses, it’s best that I fill in my brows to balance the rest of my face.  (BTW check out the WWBH, I missed out last week, but I’m all over it this week, posting early even!)

Brows AFTER

I’m really tempted to put more of an arch into my brows, but I’d rather a professional do it, because I’m certain I’m mess it up

Weirdo brows BEFORE

Some people use razors, others uses tweezers, or scissors, But I’ll show you haw I achieve my “best” brow. Let’s get to it! (Don’t forget to pin the tutorial if you like it too.)

  1. With a clean spoolie, I brush my brows upwards and outwards.
  2. After I’ve done that, I take a small scissors (one specifically for brows would make it easier) and trim the hair which is too long and messes with the shape I’m going for. Previously I’d outline my brows in a white pencil to be certain of the shape, but now I can guesstimate, hahah!
  3. Pluck those stray hairs above and below your brow. I pluck some and not all because over-tweezing can cause the hair not to grow back, and I wouldn’t want that if I decided to ever change my brow shape.
  4. Start to fill in the brow. I am using a small angled brush and the e.l.f. brow kit in Medium to make short strokes (though I hardly looks like that in this photo). Anyway, you want it to look natural and not too dark compared to you hair colour. I would also use the Maybelline MasterShape eyebrow pencil, but I’m all out of it sadly.
  5. Use a brow gel like this one from e.l.f. that’s clear to set the brows. I find this allows my artistry to last ALL day! You can also use the powder that comes in the brow kit, which I do sometimes. Depending on my mood that day. That also lasts long.
  6. Finally, highlight underneath your brow using your favourite highlighter. I’m using LORAC On Screen Duo in Champagne and Caviar as usual. But I also like Smashbox’s Crisp eyeshadow to highlight as well. I like shimmery highlights it I’m not wearing any other eye products.
Violà!

Besides the trimming and tweezing, I typically do my brows like this, unless it’s a special occasion and I’m wearing more face and eye make up. Do any of you ladies do the full-on concealer/ highlighted brows? What’s your take on that? I think done right it looks very good, but I just couldn’t imagine spending so much time on those when I have to be leaving home early (or in a rush).

Disclaimer: Products mentioned were bought with my money. Opinions are my own.
