Brown Sugar Machiatto ~Asian Candy~

Hey all! It’s been a long time since I’ve watched an asian drama, especial Jewel in the Palace which was showing on the local channel, CBC. So here’s to a new start, I really miss watching them. I can’t give you my own synopsis or my view of this one because I’ve never watched this. This is a first right?

Anyway this month, I’ll be watching Brown Sugar Machiatto which is a Taiwanese drama from 2007. It’s a romantic comedy, placed in a school setting. I have a feeling it’ll be corny, but it’ll be a good drama to start back with, a nice laugh. BTW it’s 13 episodes.

Type: Romantic, Comedy, School
Country:Taiwan
Synopsis:

One day, six boys with different personalities and backgrounds are notified they shared the same father. And on top of that they are entitled to a large inheritance. There is only one catch. They must attend the same school and live in the same house for one year to become loving brothers. But, the boys not only hate each other, they have to deal with nine mean girls from their class. Will the brothers band together and successfully pass the inheritance test? Or, will falling in love with their classmates pull them farther apart?

Smiling Pasta ~Asian Candy~

Hey all! I’ve been totally forgetful when it came to watching Asian dramas and I’d like to apologise to all of you who have been waiting around to see what dramas I would have suggested monthly. Well, I’m back on it and I will try my hardest to keep up with this each month from now on!

Taken from Wiki Drama

This month’s drama, a little early for February but nonetheless is Smiling Pasta, a Tawainese Romantic Comedy.
Type: Comedy, Romance

Country: Taiwan
Storyline:
Xiao Shi, your average girl has the worse luck with love. She has been bestowed with a 3-months curse by Ah Zhe. One night while wishing on a shooting star for luck in love, she accidentally drops her coffee mug from her balcony onto a passer-by’s car. Little does she know that this stranger would become a big part of her life.

The next day, she goes on a date with her 17th boyfriend in celebration of what would be their three month anniversary. However he dumps her for another girl on that day. Downcast, she roams the streets as she has not been able to break this curse after 17 tries. Meanwhile He Qun, an idol in disguise is fleeing the press after an encounter with his girlfriend Rita, and happens to bump into Xiao Shi in a rather compromising position, a “kiss”.
As He Qun is accustomed to the frenzy the paparazzi usually creates, he runs off dragging Xiao Shi with him and they seek refuge at his house. The media have worked overtime and by morning, it’s all over the news.
When Xiao Shi and He Qun wake up the press get them by surprise and they are forced by He Qun’s manager, Vincent to form a fake relationship under contract, where Xiao Shi is He Qun’s girlfriend of one year and  fiancée. However Xiao Shi secretly likes Ah Zhe and He Qun loves Rita….
Will the “couple” last past 3 months? How will Rita feel about this new development? How does Ah Zhe fit into all of this? Will there be any sparks in the relationship? You have to watch it to find out! ^__^
My Opinion:
This was actualy a nice light-hearted drama, the characters’ antics were quite similar to an anime. While for some that may be childish, to me it was very fun to watch because the characters are very animated. The love story among the 4 main characters (Xiao Shi, He Qun, Rita, Ah Zhe) was rather interesting but I don’t want to give any spoilers so I’ll zip it hahaha. Anyway watch it for yourself  🙂
XOXO

October Special!! ~Asian Candy~

Hey all! * throws candy corn and black liquorice* It’s October!! You know what that means! It’s gonna be my birthday soon! Not only that but, the Asian candy for this month will be twice as nice! Free goodies for everybody! Especially the October babies! Happy Birthday to all the October borns!!

These would have been Horror movies in honour of Halloween, but I don’t particularly watch Horror dramas lolol. Anyway, these are still great dramas to watch during this month!

Trick or Treat?  Muahahahaha

Full House
Type: Comedy, Romance
Country: South Korea

Storyline:
Han Ji Eun played by Song Hye Gyo is naive and cheerful, although she is somewhat of a recluse writer. She is swindled out of everything she owns, not by strangers, but her best friends!
Ji Eun is in China but, she is determined to get home with the help of an actor, Lee Young Jae (Bi/ Rain). She borrows money from him after coming up with a clever lie and plans to pay him back after landing in Korea, only to find that all which is precious to her has been sold by her best friends!
In an attempt to get her possessions back, Ji Eun has entered in a contract marriage with Young Jae for one year…..
My Opinion: Worth the watch. It’s a sweet love story between the two characters. I like how their feelings grow for each other and how Ji Eun is strong until the end. Bi is soooo hot! hahaha. I on’t want to say too much about this drama because I really dislike spoilers, and I’d hate to ruin it for anyone.
Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi)
Type: Comedy, Romance, Science Fiction
Country: Japan
Storyline:
Izawa Riko is a temporary worker in search of a boyfriend, and she ends up in possession of a “robot” known as Night Tenjo, who is programmed to be the perfect boyfriend. However, this creates a love triangle with a distinguished young man at her company who has feelings for her. How will this story end?
My Opinion:
I remember watching this and crying at some parts (yes crying, it was so sad at that part). Tenjo is so naive haha, it’s hilarious some of the things he randomly blurts out. As for the Riko-chan, she kinda annoyed me by being so mean to Tenjo, I mean he is a robot, but.. come on, he just wanted the best for her. The other male protagonist, I actually can’t remember. But he’s good-looking! I think he was also in Hana Kimi or Hana Yori Dango… one of those Hanas. Another good one to watch and one of my favourites. Yes it’s not so recent, but some old things are pretty good lol.

Hope you enjoy these, and Happy October!

First Shop Coffee Prince! ~Asian Candy~

Hey all! This is the first in hopefully many monthly posts of your ~Asian Candy~! This name is not meant to offend in any way. Asian Drama of the Month is a bit much to type and sounds laughable when abbreviated, if you see what I mean. (ADOTM??)

Every month I will be posting a drama or movie suggestion, usually one I have watched before or I am currently watching. I will try not to include too many spoilers until the end of the month or the next ~Asian Candy~ post where I will elaborate a bit on the previous month’s drama. Hopefully, you like this kind of thing and will watch along with me, what ever the case is, your feedback is definitely valued.
These posts will usually include links from www.mysoju.com and information from http://wiki.d-addicts.com/

Onto this month’s Drama!

The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince
Type: Comedy, Romance
Country: South Korea
Storyline:
Go Eun Chan played by Yoon Eun Hye, does not have an easy life, she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. The heir of a big food company,Choi Han Kyul  played by Gong Yoo, is forced to settle down by his grandmother who sets up numerous dates for him.
Eun Chan bumps into Han Kyul and is mistaken for a boy, then Han Kyul decides to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan has no choice but to accept.
Han Kyul’s grandmother also makes him in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begs to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his “homosexuality”?
My Opinion: I had watched this drama ages again, but I’d definitely watch it over because it’s such a hilarious and yet sweet drama. I really don’t want to talk too much on it, because I already feel like the synopsis says too much, and if you’re like me you’d HATE spoilers.
DEFINITELY WORTH THE WATCH!

End of a new week.. or is it the beginning?.. hmm

Hey everyone, another week has just flew past and another has just begun. Hope you all had a great week and weekend as well.. I know I did.

Well this week was quite hectic actually, lots of work to do. I had a Chemistry test first thing Monday morning.. what a way to start the week, sigh… but it went pretty well. Our tutors in charge of labs have been messing us up quite a bit.. returning books late and then marking them like crazy people, I hope it gets sorted out this week, my friend still hasn’t gotten their lab book from LAST WEEK! Talk about crazy late! On the bright side, the Chemistry labs were satisfyingly easier than the previous week’s labs… SCORE!
I finally switched the time of my Biology class (Yay no more late evenings!!!), but I couldn’t find it this week, so next week I’ll try hard to be there =). Biology labs from last week were also a bit stressful at the end.. time was running out and I started to panic because my results were coming out really weird. But thanks to my really cool lab partner and we were able to finish AND clean up in time ^_^.

On Saturday I finally cut my hair!!  I had planned to do it earlier, like in September, but my hair still looked too short (it’s texturised, but my hair is really unruly haha). No one believed I would do it, not even my sister! But I showed them :P. I’m thinking if I should post before and after pictures here, comment before and tell me if I should. I was planning this change from long hair for quite some time actually, I’m pretty happy with the results and hope that my hair texture experiment comes out well.

Also on Saturday, my family (Dad, Mom, Sister and me of course :P) went to dinner at Sitar with my Great-Uncle and his family (cousins hehe). Sitar is a traditional Indian cuisine restaurant with an extensive menu worth the buck… let’s just say that by the end of the night it was a wonder how we were able to move from our seats. The food was really good and the service was just as good. Sitar is located in 2nd Street St.James in case you would like to visit it, It’s a bit chilly inside because of the air conditioning (although they did raise the temperature when we asked) so I would advise carrying a light jacket.

So for starters we had some Chicken and Vegetable Samosas, these were packed with filling and tasted amazing! We also had some Daal Vada (split pea patties), Onion fritters (can’t remember the real name) and a variaty of condiments: a tomato-based sauce (one of my favourites), yogurt and cucumber sauce (very nice), coconut and onion sauce, chopped onions, mango chutney (delicious!). And of course NAN bread! We also had Pappadums which is like the Indian equivalent to prawn crackers, but it was huge, bigger than my face! It was very light , like a snack  but not too salty.

For the main course, I had Chicken Tikka Masala… yum, with basmati rice (not so much a fan of this type of rice but it went well with the dish). It wasn’t over overpoweringly spicy, just nice and mellow. Tasted great!

My dad, mum, great-uncle .. in fact  most of the adults had Chicken Tandoori which came in a hot.. now when I say hot I mean so hot that sizzling and popping sounds were coming from the dish ( I think it was a cast iron dish), even the sauce was bubbling! see what I mean here:

My sister had some green goop… when not really green goop but it looked pretty um.. I’ll just let you judge for yourself. It was called Beef Saag (spinach-based sauce) and she seemed to like it…I didnt dare touch it.. for fear I would be taking in by it like one of those Calvin & Hobbes comics. hahahaha. Take a look yourself.

Yup and that was pretty much my weekend, excluding my many hours of catching up on notes, writing up biology labs and doing miscellaneous classwork and chores.
How was your weekend, and what’s your take on Indian cuisine? Like it, hate it, never had it.. couldn’t be bothered? Drop me a line anyway =) I’d love to hear from you. Until then,I’ll leave you with this fun blast from the past haha:  Calvin Food Struggle !
