Casual Friday Work Attire | Fashion

Hey all! Sometime in Summer I saw this outfit post on Facebook, and I loved it so much I saved it. I sadly don’t know who created it to credit them, but if you do know, please send me their link so I can do that.

I am in love with how chic this outfit is, even for work. Depending on where you work, this would be the perfect casual Friday outfit, though probably not for me at current, but I can’t help but love it.  I think this would go well if you had to go out for drinks after work or maybe dinner with the significant other too.

If I were to put this outfit together, I would go with this Coral Blazer and Georgette blouse, for differences in colour and textures. As for the jeans, I would have loved to found a pair just like the photo, but I instead found these ones on Rue21 which you can fold the bottoms up to a comfy length. I really like the dark wash for professional wear. Shoes depend on what job you have, and I’d rather comfort over style if you are required to stand a long time, so these cheetah print loafers from Old Navy and some inner soles for extra comfort seemed perf!

I saw these set of bangles on Forever21 and loved them. Especially since the colours go well with the coral blazer. When it comes to bags, you want something fashionable yet sturdy for those daily commutes if you don’t have personal transportation. Since there’s a lot more colour going on with the blazer, I looked for a neutral blue bag similar to the set above and found one from Liz Claiborne.

What do you typically wear on casual Fridays?

Mandy’s 1st Day Outfit

Hi! This is my first day of school outfit 🙂 I’m wearing a pleated school uniform skirt from land’s end, my top is from Johnnie B., a target headband, and keds. My school doesn’t have a dress code, but I love school uniform clothes because they’re high quality and the only place I can find plain knee length skirts, and the pleats are so perfect on this skirt.
I like to wear sneakers because my school’s campus is pretty big and I have to walk outside to get from class to class. They’re also helpful for running to meet my friends who I haven’t seen all summer :P.
The basic elements of this outfit make it easy to switch out something for a cool statement piece, like my sunflower diy flower crown.

Jasmine’s Easy Going Outfit

When I need an easy going day outfit its all about comfort. For fall time in New York I like a long sleeve that is still light because the weather can go be warm one minute and cool the next. Also for an easy day outfit I love flats. They pretty much go with anything and are easy to get around in. I like to still be fashionable and on budget and lulus.com has great variety of stuff for that.

Christina’s 1st Day Outfit

As you might have known, I’m in my final year of university, about to start what should be my final semester *crosses fingers*, so my dress-code is more laid-back and easy. I don’t like a lot of fuss for school, but I do love to be comfy and warm in class. I paired my Old Navy White tee with these RockStar jeans also from ON. I swear this wasn’t sponsored, just a coincidence!

In Barbados, it’s hot all year round, so it’s almost always appropriate to wear shorts. But because it’s the first day, I am wearing these red ankle-length pants because you never know what temperature your lecture theatres will be. I’m also wearing AirWalk pumps, they’re so easy on your feet and perfect for long days! To accessorise my BCBG statement bracelets from Macys and my usual necklace from my grandmum.

Lucy’s Easy Going Outfit

So, here’s my chilled out university look. I think it’s perfect for a day studying, and when you don’t want to look too dressed up – but still on trend. I love these cigarette trousers, I think they really make an outfit pop, and available in a number of high street stores – so you don’t need to settle for one pair! (I know I haven’t). This light blazer is perfect for everyday, I know it’s a bit pricier at £50 but I constantly wear it, so relaxed and slouchy. It’s always good to buy a statement piece every now and then that you’re going to get a lot of wear out of.

Accessories, Accessories, Accessories! This necklace I love, there’s a lot of chain necklaces on the high street at the moment and for £4 you can’t go wrong! This particular one also has a bit of weight to it, there’s nothing worse than a light, barely there necklace.
Blazer – Topshop £50
Cigarette Trousers – H&M £7 (sale, bargain right?)
Top – H&M (bought years ago)
Boots – Dorothy Perkins £28 (sale, 20% off original price)
Necklace – Primark £4
Hope you enjoyed seeing our Back to school Style, be sure to come back next week for part 2!

Accessorizing with a Scarf! | Fashion

Hey all, today we’re sprucing up or look with a scarf. No we’re not talking about cotton bandanas, but watercolour, bright, flowy summer scarves. ALSO some time back in March I said I wanted to either be a part of a blog hop, or start my own, So I finally took the plunge and joined one :). Yay! This is the Weekly Wednesday Blog Hop by Melissa from This Girl’s Life. Although I’m just a student, I love to follow her blog, she does a lot of lifestyle posts, DIYs, and still a bit of of beauty too!

Here’s 4 ways you can wear scarves this summer.

Classic… Throw it around the Neck

The easiest way to wear a scarf. I sported this look on my trip, you can see the full post here.

Put it n a Bag

I actually have a scarf on my taupe bag and I love how it brightens up the look of my bag. I can also switch up the scarf according to my outfit. For my bag, the scarf tends to go with everything.

Wrap it around your Head

I look like a pirate wearing this style, my head is just way too small to look normal in hats or scarves, but it looks great on others, like my sister and loves with longer hair than mine.

Belt it

Ever had an outfit that looked like it was just missing something? Or your belt just couldn’t add anything to the pants or skirt you were wearing? Well a scarf is a great alternative to a belt! Adding just the right amount of pizazz to a plain outfit.

Summer Swimsuit Guide 2013 | Fashion

I was reading the June issue of InStyle Magazine a bit earlier this month and I loved the piece they did on Swimwear trends for 2013. This inspired to do a swimwear guide of my own.

Floral prints never seem to go out of style for swimwear, and this year’s no exception. Besides your typical granny florals (small floral prints), larger flowers and even leaves are making a splash this year! I am loving the one-piece swimsuit on the left corner which sports a bright leafy print.
Swimear trends 2013

Cut-outs are also making a statement this year with whole pieces and even bikini bottoms are showcasing risqué slits. Something about cut-outs feels more bold and sexier than just a bikini.  I am not so daring when it comes to baring so much skin, so the black high waisted cut-out bottom in the top right would suit me fine.

Another trend I’ve been noticing was the bold prints and colours. This multicoloured print monokini in the center is just so fun. It has a bit of a retro feel too it too, and that deep V-neck is just so daring! Besides bright colours, pastels are also still floating around from Spring and I must say I’m still in love with pastel coloured swimwear. Sadly, I couldn’t find a picture of one that I loved.

Finally, mixed and matched prints and colours, once something frowned upon is looking more and more tempting to try. Of course, you have to be able to mix the right prints or colours, that could be pretty daunting. For me, I think the turquoise fringe bandeau is nicely paired with the black and white Aztec print bottom. It’s a easy mixed and matched combo. You could be more daring and try mixing polka dots with stripes or florals with other things. I’ve heard the key in that is keeping one colour the same in each print.

What do you think of the swimsuit trends for this summer? Not as many retro-styled bikinis as last year, but bits and pieces of the retro fun. My top favourite trends are the bold colours, pastels and cut-outs.  What are yours?

I call it Spring! OOTD | Fashion

Hey all, here’s a couple snaps of an outfit that I wore one day while perusing the city. It was a bit warmer out, probably 24 C but still a bit chilled compared to here in Barbados. I was so happy that I could wear my shorts haha. These are some pretty old Off shore shorts and opaque black tights. I’m also wearing American Eagle blue bow ballet flats, these are so comfy! On top I’m wearing a black lace back tank top and I covered up with a bright chartreuse cardigan from JCP and wrapped this colourful leopard scarf around my neck.

I thought this was a pretty fun outfit considering the weather conditions. Later it got a bit warmer (yay! ) so I removed the scarf and tights and went bare-legged.  As for accesories, I’m wearing just one bracelet that my sister got me probably 2 years ago, and a pair of Cole Haan sunglasses I recently acquired. I love those! I’m also wearing small pave heart studs and have my hair in a fish tail braid. My mother actually took these pics for me, I think she got pretty handy with the camera considering her first shots with it haha, thanks mum :).

As for my bag, I went with my trusty everyday bag also from JCP, by Call it Spring in a taupe brown.
So what do you think of the outfit? Anything you would do differently?

Until next post…

Flight-ready outfit | Fashion

Since I’m going to be flying out this week, I thought that it would be very appropriate to make a fashion set on an outfit that would be very comfortable and easy-going for the airport, but not too shabby. I have seen people in hang-low sweat pants and socks with slippers at the airport, and it’s not cute…

Flight ready outfit

Travelling can be a real hassle, especially with all the security checks. You want to be comfortable, not “take off your shoes, remove your belt” and depending on where you’re going not too hot or cold. I’ve put together this outfit which includes a choice of sweaters and scarves to add to the outfit in case it gets a bit chilly. While the shirt is easy and breezy in case it is a bit humid out.
Sandals and jeggings are easy to wear without too much hassle going through security, and of course you need to have some cute sunnies and a hold everything (securely) bag.

What do you think of the outfit? Are you one of those people who dress up to go to the airport, or are you very chill? For me, I am in love with the outfit above and why not dress up a bit for the airport? Never know who you’ll bump into…

Sensible Shopping without Sacrificing style | Guest Post

Hey all, today I have guest post from the lovely Morgan from Gray Gabbana ! She’s going to be talking about have style without sacrificing all of your hard-earned cash. Something we could all do with, because keeping on trend and stylish can be quite a hard balancing act with restricted funds.

For many women, shopping is not merely a way to procure the basic necessities of life: shopping is primal instinct, individualistic expression, and economic survival. But we do not have to accrue massive debt to fulfill our hunter-gather instincts or to leave a lasting impression at our next job interview. Smart shopping strategies and tips can keep your closet and medicine cabinet fresh and full of options without emptying your wallet.

Incorporate a few of these strategies into your shopping routine and save yourself hundreds of dollars each year without sacrificing your unique sense of style:

Little Lifestyle Adjustments

If you look to the glossy pages of fashion magazines for inspiration or a glimpse of glamor, consider buying an annual subscription or two to your favorites. The retail price of each magazine is between $3 and $5, but deep discounts for these same periodicals can be found online (Check out Thriftymags.com and Discountmags.com.) for as low as $7 per year.

Shop your own closet. I know that you have heard or read this advice before, but before you tune me out, consider what treasures may be hiding in plain sight! Most of us have trouble envisioning the possibilities of our wardrobe, but an iPhone app called Stylebook gives us a new, fresh perspective. Take photos of your clothing, shoes, and accessories, categorize them, and then mash them up to create innovative looks.

Save a Few Beauty Bucks

Free is a magical word, especially for diehard shoppers, and many companies’ reward customers, both new and loyal. Sephora sends a free birthday gift to members of their Beauty Insider program. Sign up for the program is also free, and you can claim your gift up to two weeks before or two weeks after your special day.

With that in mind, we should also avoid the other extreme: overpriced products. For example, mascara is essentially the same, no matter the price. Why spend $50 on a bottle of Sephora mascara when a bottle of classic Maybelline Great Lash on sale for $6 or less at the local drug store works just as well? Both bottles also need to be replaced every 3 to 6 months, another reason to avoid the extra expense of high-priced, high-end beauty products.

Fastidious Fashion Funds

Basic t-shirts, tanks, and camis are a fashion staple no matter the season or the trend, but at $25 or more each at the mall, they can quickly break the bank. You do not need to give up on quality to save on these basics, simply make a small detour to your local Target on your next shopping spree. Here quality basics are often less than half of the price of similar pieces at trendy shops and boutiques.

When shopping for accessories, designer fashions easily cost hundreds of dollars each. Eyewear and sunglasses this spring can easily run over $300! Yikes! However, companies like Warby Parker offer stylish frames for a fraction of that price. They are also socially consciousness—for every pair sold a pair is given to an individual in need!

No matter how you decide to cut your shopping budget, spending less does not mean you have to sacrifice quality and your own sense of style.

I hope you all enjoyed this post by Morgan. If you have any tips and tricks to cutting costs when shopping, please leave them in the comments. I’m sure we’d all benefit from them!
Until next post, have a great weekend!

From Cocktails to Formal Dinners| Fashion

While they weather is warming up in the States and Europe, it’s been warm here in Barbados for a while, but we too are finally heading into wedding and graduation season. I was looking through my emails and saw this post about Chi Chi clothing store and boy am I glad I did! They have beautiful formal dresses!

Loving these dresses from Chi Chi

These dresses aren’t too gaudy and at the same time don’t look too casual either. They beautiful enough for going out to the club, a quick drink or even to dinner. I love that they have a really nice selection of evening gowns too. I’m surprised at the pricing too, especially the sale gowns. Sadly buying from the UK is a bit pricey considering the conversion rate from BDS to GBP, but had I the money to spare I would.

Chi Chi along with etailPR are having a contest right now where a £200 gift card for the store is up for grabs. I know if I were to win these would be the dresses I’d pick! the two larger pictures (along the flanks) are my absolute favourites, but I’ll get to those shortly.

The 3 dresses on the top row seem perfect in both comfort and style for a night out. Be it a dinner with friends, clubbing or even a special date. I’m a big fan of the details each of them have. Lace, sequins and peplum, even that cut out halter is to die for!

The next row with the longer dresses seem suitable for a weddings (as a guest), a formal dinner, graduation or prom. We don’t have prom here in Barbados though, but we do have pageant and I could definitely see persons wearing similar styles to this. The sheer fabric is perfect for here in the tropics and it’s still very detailed. At my secondary school graduation, I had a very similar gown to the pink and purple one on the right and I was in love with it!

Finally we have my 2 absolute favourites. On the left, is a gorgeous ivory dip hem dress which I think would be lovely for graduation, while on the right is a cocktail dress with beautiful lace detailed bodice and pleather skirt. I’m just in love with these two. So very chic.

Anyway, check out the Chi Chi website and tell me your favourite in the dresses in the comments. I love that the prices aren’t too outrageous. you can definitely get about 4 dresses or more for £200!

Eyelet Prints for Spring 2013 | Fashion

Hey all! It’s a bit later than Wednesday.. ok a lot late, but I still have this Fashion post for you. As I said early in March, some Wednesdays I will post a fashion set or maybe my outfit of the day (if I ever feel up to that haha).

Spring 2013 Eyelets

Anyway, eyelet prints have been popping up everywhere this Spring and here’s my take on it. I remember these were popular back when I was in primary school and now they’re back in full force. Always a cute girly look. I thought I’d do a white set because I always end up choosing corals or minty greens. This is really easy to wear and breezy. I never really get too dressed up for anything, but this would be nice to wear for a beach picnic or even a Spring BBQ, just because with those whites!

I have two bags because I loved them both and depending on where you would be able to choose appropriately. I love the patent leather Versace bag for a more dressed up feel, while the canvas bag would go more for a casual look. Of course I added some mixed coloured arm candy, with a colour template about the same range as the rest of the outfit.

I love the effortless hair and this fedora is just too cute! these sandals are also a must have and would probably fit my slender feet. Always a problem I have with sandals.

What do you think of the outfit? Will or are you rocking eyelet prints for the season? How do you wear them?

Spring Pastel Style inspiration

Hey all! I’ve been realising that so far for Spring 2013, a number of colours keep popping up, namely in the pastel ranges. Then again that may just be the case for every spring. Whatever the case, here are a couple of pictures which inspire my Spring wardrobe (though I have yet to buy some mint green pieces haha). These images are not my own, but are sourced from Pinterest under the pastel search. I love how cool toned and calm the colours are.

I’m a sucker for balloons, but this is also a very beautiful shot.

Sometimes I wish I could actually paint my nails, so I could do cool designs like this one.

I want this sweater…

Cutest little gumball machine

I wish I could do that to my hair, this is gorgeous!

Or maybe this… hmm not really, that’s a bit extreme

This is such a serene shot, and the make up looks like it’s from the 1960’s

Love how Kelly Osbourne pairs this dress with a bold orangey lip

How do you feel about pastels for Spring? Have you already rocked the trend?  I’d love to hear your tips on wearing pastels casually. I am yet to try this fad.
