Coastal Scents 32 Lip palette | Swatches

Hey all! I’m really late today, but I wanted to get up this post because I promised I’d post the rest of my Coastal Scents haul. I’ll let the photos do the talking as there isn’t much to say about this palette besides that it’s a really good deal especially if you want to do other people’s makeup or want to try new colours without buying individual lippies.

The pots are the size of a quater, and not every colour in the palette is opaque, but there is a good mixture of creams, shimmers, frosts even, and sheer colours. The would be fun for mixing your own custom colour. All of them have a gloss finish, but if you blot your lips you would get a more matte look.

Duty Free Day Lip Products (RW) | Beauty

Hey all! It was around this time, 2 years ago that I picked up what are still some of my favourite lip products, and what I thought was the best shopping day Barbados ever had. Duty-Free day!

For us locals, there’s this steep tax on most if not all imported goods, and although that’s good for Government revenue and all that jazz, it really is a stifler to purchasing anything. Imaging a Revlon lipstick usually $7.99USD, costing you $15USD. Say what…. that aint right, but that’s what we deal with in Barbados. Sadly too, many “sales” are never really much of a deal and the stuff I really want rarely goes on sale, nor is there coupons. So imagine my glee when Duty Free day rolled around in 2011 and I was just getting into lipsticks.

Here are just a few of the items I got back then and swatches.

Maybelline ColorSensational High Shine gloss- Raspberry Reflections | Swatches & Review

Recently, my aunt got me this Maybelline gloss, which I previewed here in my DLG lipstick comparisons post, and I must say I am in love with it. I’m so glad she got me it. I had no idea that this gloss would apply so beautifully or last so well on the lips!

The colour is called Raspberry Reflections and is a late 2012 release from the Maybelline Color Sensational line. In the tube it looks like it would be a milky cool toned pink, bordering fuchsia. I did not notice any shimmer, so I’ll describe it as a crème formula. On the lips, it doesn’t come off as milky as it looks in the tube, which you will see in the swatches.

I love how this gloss applied. Colour from start to finish and a little goes a long way, and the applicator (slanted doe-foot) is great for this product, it really allows for precision yet speedy application. Of course the overall colour will be affected by the natural colour of your lips. As it looks slightly different on Jessica from Beautezine.

As the name suggests, it is a high shine gloss and lives up to the name without being sticky or irritatingly runny. I don’t feel the need to keep checking a mirror to see if it is runny down the sides of my mouth. It just settles in after a bit of wear AND the best part is, after 2 hours or so of wear it stains the lips. So the colour stays, even if the “high” shine is gone. It’s almost like wearing a lip stain without the annoying dryness.

I am really fascinated by the staying power as I wore this gloss for about 4 hours and although the shine faded, it still looked great! Mind you this was after coffee, lots of yapping and snacking haha. This gloss is also buildable, so the more you apply the better the colour and the staying power to some degree.

Online this is gloss is $6USD which I think is great especially since it’s such a good gloss. This goes perfectly with my M.A.C. Daddy’s little Girl lipstick. Although there was a coordinating gloss for that, I wouldn’t be paying for a M.A.C. one when I could get the same staying power with this affordable gloss. I’m just in love with this!

What do you think of it? Any other affordable glosses that can match up or even more fabulous? Be sure to leave them in the comments, I’ve love some more suggestions!

Mad for Lavender-MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2

Since last Spring or maybe the spring before that I had fallen in love with lavender lip products.  Although they may not be the most typical and wearable of lip products,  the novelty of a purple lipstick just teases me.  So when MAC released their second Viva Glam lipstick with Nicki Minaj in February,  I was excited to see that it was pastey lilac.  The first Nicki Viva Glam was a bright coral pink colour,  which to me was something I could achieve by mixing a few colours.  But lilac is unique.

Lately I’ve been seeing many purple,  or at least purple-toned lip products and I have read that purple is a hot colour for Spring.  Revlon also makes a lilac shade for their lip butters as well as the balm stains and previously had a Super Lustrous lipgloss in a very cute lavender.

According to the swatches that I’ve seen of Nicki 2, as well as the MAC product description,  this is an opaque amplified finish lipstick,  meaning the it is loaded with pigment.  I appreciate this because there have been times where I see lilac lipsticks and there is hardly any pigment to them.  However as it would be obvious,  this colour is not for every skintone.  Definitely not darker ones,  unless you make some changes or you are extremely bold.  I like how blogger Cheryl from Makeup by Cheryl H warms up the cool tone of this pastey lilac lippy by using a deeper lip pencil.  Also for us darker in complexion, Ayesha from Simple Beauty Blog, show some great options to make this a more wearable colour.

Would you try the trend of lavender lips? Have you already bought Viva Glam Nicki 2?

Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

You probably have seen in one on the hauls on my YouTube last year, that I got a Revlon lip butter in “Candy Apple”, which is a gorgeus warm-toned red. Recently I’ve acqured another from a giveaway I won, in Raspberry Pie, which looks as yummy and pretty as it sounds.

The packaging on these lip products are very sleek and they do not look at all cheap. I also love the viewing window for the colour and how the lid is a similar colour to the lip product. Sadly, being the clutz that I am, I had the hardest time opening it at first and got lip butter all over the cover haha.

The formula is very good, a nice smooth even colour when you’re applying it to your lips. No patchiness, and very moisturising for a lip colour. As the name suggests, it’s like butter, but beware in tropical, warm places this can melt in storage. I have found my older one melted a bit in my cosmetics bag.

The colour is a cool-toned pink with makes my teeth look whiter than they really are. They chose the best name for this shade, as it does remind me of a raspberry. This lip product leaves a nice sheen to the lips, and isn’t sticky, but is a tad heavy. You can defintely tell that you are wearing it on your lips. I wouldn’t add a gloss over it, it’s great as is, and the colour pay-off is surprising. You only need to do one swipe to get medium coverage and it is buildable.

After eating, drinking and talking (a lot), the sheen obviously doesn’t not stay, but the colour stains your lips. I wore this on the first day of the Girlfriend’s Expo this year and it lasted for about 6 hours, that is with me reapplying just lip balm to me lips occasionally because my lips tend to dry out once exposed. I was very impressed!

The Verdict:Pros:

  • Great colour pay-off
  • Good amount of product
  • Gives a nice sheen to lips
  • Lasts about 6 hours (on me)
  • Stains lips (this colour)
  • Moisturising for a lip colour (still not as moisturising as a lip balm, obviously)
  • Chic packaging

Cons:

  • Hard to open on first use (or maybe that was just me)
  • Pricey in Barbados ($20BDS+) and never on special 😦

The Raw Sugar:
I love the the lip butters, especially this colour. I want to try the lilac one next, if not Creme Brulee that I have seen tons rave about. OR the Relvon Lip Balm Stains. However those as like $25BDS….and on a student budget, I can’t see myself getting that anytime soon. But this product is definitely worth purchasing if you want to tip toe into wearing lipstick, or just moving away from nude lips as you can build the colour intensity and it feels a bit like lip balm.

Maybelline Baby Lips Review

Today I havea review of a product I think I will mention in my Favourites of 2012, if I ever get around to making one. I’m still compiling my list for that. I am a lover  of lip balms and this one I’ve heard mixed reviews of, but I still decided to buy it and try it out. I’m extremely glad that I did, because I think I am in love with this lip balm, the Maybelline Baby Lips.

I have the Maybelline Baby lips lip balm in #10 Peppermint which has SPF20 in it as well. That’s a good bonus because lips get sunburnt too! This lip balm was $6.75BDS which is a good standard price compared to others I have gotten here. I got it at Collins Pharmacy and there were also a couple other flavours as well as some tinted ones. For the price you pay you do get a lot of product, the twist-up tube is abosultely full of lipbalm and although I’m been using it a while, I’ve barely made a dent in it.

Peppermint is a clear lip balm that goes on smoothly with a nice sheen to the lips and tastes slightly of mint, however it’s nowever as minty or refreshing as the Victoria Secret Lip Rush lipgloss in peppermint I used to have like 3 years ago. That was just bomb. It felt like you had just brushed your teeth when using that.

Anyway, the Baby Lips lasts I’d say 3-4 hours with the shine provided you don’t constantly lick your lips and it really does leave your lips feeling super soft and hydrated. As for the packaging, I don’t know if a more mature person would buy this, it does look like a teen’s lip balm, but it really does work. I don’t mind it, I’m still pretty young. The tube and it’s cover are plastic, with the cover being clear so you can see the lipbalm from the top. Similar to Nivea lip balms it has a slight click cover, which holds pretty securely, but I would still be a bit worried to just throw this in my purse without it losing it’s cap. It’s nice and compact though, definitely something you can slip in your pocket and not worry about when you sit.

The formula is not sticky, but it does feel like it remains on the lips for a while before it wears off. Exactly after wearing off, your lips still feel nice and moisturised, but what’s weird about using this product is that the feeling without it does not last. If it were to wear off in 3 hours and you don’t reapply in 1 hour or so, it feels like you’re in the desert or dehydrated… or something. I’ve never felt that way with other lip balms, not to the extent of this one, and if you know me, you know I’m always drinking water.

I have been using this since late October/ early November and I have recognised a difference in the softness of my lips. They don’t peel like before and they need less exfoliation, though I still do exfoliate a few times a week. The product does feel like it absorbs into the lips over time and that’s probably why it made my lips feel so much softer. You also don’t need a lot of the product. I put this on at any time of the day and I love to slather it on at night. I wake up with my lips feeling “baby soft”.

The Verdict:
Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Good amount of product
  • Only need a small amount for usage
  • Slight peppermint taste
  • Gives lips a bit of shine depending on how much you put on
  • Really make lips feel soft, and peel less

Cons:

  • Packaging though bright and fun may not suit all ages
  • Cover could get loose in a handbag

The Raw Sugar:
For a lover of lip balms like myself, especially since my lips are always peeling. i think this is a great buy and I can’t wait to go buy it in quenched and maybe the tinted formula. I like peppermint, but it’s not as minty as I had anticipated. However it does leave my lips extremely soft, I feel like rubbign them together all the time.

Trendy Beauty for Spring 2012

Revlon ColorBurst Lip ButterI’m probably more than late with this post but since these things are still trending its still a good idea to write about it. There have been a number of things I’ve been seeing with lots of buzz from winter and they may continue through to spring. I’m just going to list them off and a bit of my thoughts on them.

Lipstick-Lip balm Hybrids:
From the infamous Revlon ColorBurst lip butters to the L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm … These lip products have so much hype surrounding them. It’s like the best thing since sliced bread! Everyone is now bringing out a lip moisturiser which boasts of a subtle colour pay-off as well.

Frankly I love it! Lipsticks have been around for a long-time and one thing they needed to perfect was the moisturising properties. Now with these new series of lip products it’s just amazing how they’ve combined a good lip balm with some actual colour. Before these seemed to only be available from higher-end brands such as Clinique, Lancome and Dior, just to name a few.

However, drugstore brands have been able to knock consumers off the department store brands to their grocery stores in search of these more affordable versions. Best thing is, EVERYONE seems to be loving them all over the beauty world. I CANNOT wait until they finally reach here! (Granted it may take another 2 months hahaha)

Tangerine Tango:
Named by Pantone as one of the colours of 2012. Corals and oranges were really hot last year and it seems they’re continuing the trend this year. Appearing everywhere, from clothes to beauty products, all the newest collections are including at least one tangerine colour.
I’m not too certain about my feelings to this colour being in everything as I’m not much of a orange fan, but I will be watching to see how it turns out.

I’ve also been seeing the Bright Charteuse, Honey Gold and Pink Flambe growing in popularity with the current styles. Actually I have a hand bag in a colour very similar to the Honey Gold. I at least understand why that is popular, it’s neutral enough to go with everything, yet bright enough to be a pop of colour.

Maybelline:
This cosmetic brand has been headlining the drugstore beauty realm from the beginning of 2012 with their affordable alternatives to the infamous M.A.C. paintpots, called the Maybelline 24 hour Color Tattoos. These are being coveted by beauty bloggers, enthusiasts and those in search of a great gel eyeshadow. Not only have they been winning people over with the Color Tattoos, but they have brought out a number of products with improvements on their older products, such as the Eye Studio and Dream.

Drugstore Brands:
I’ve talked about Maybelline in particular, but it really appears as if the drugstore brands are taking their game to a higher height. Improved formulas and packaging are winning over tons of cusomers who once stuck only to department store brands.

L'Oreal Voluminous - False Fiber Lashes Mascara, Black - .34 oz

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Spring 2012 and Summer as well!! What’s trending on your side of the world?

XOXO

Disclaimer: Images are not my own, hopefully I get my hands on some of these products eventually though!

Lip Product Swatches (Duty-Free Day)

Hey all! Finally I have the post with the swatches for the lip products of the duty-free haul. Enjoy!

Lorac Lotsa Lip Plumping lipgloss in Foxy & Trixy:

Foxy is kind of a hard colour to describe for me. It’s like a muted red colour, but it’s in the same colour family as a burgundy, although lighter. Do you get what I mean? It’s odd really, but the photos will show you exactly what I mean.

Trixy is definitely easier to describe lol. A lovely lilac shimmer. A lilac gloss, weird you know, but it actually looks great on the lips on it’s own. Both  of these glosses have a slightly pearly finish and microglitters. Neither of them feel grainy, but go one really smooth and are very high shine. They first time I tried it on, the brush-tip applicator tricked me into squeezing out too much of the product, so the colour was very strong and rich.

Revlon Colorbrust Lipgloss in Papaya & Pink Ice:

I absolutely LOVE Papaya. From the first time I saw it in KoharuUwara’s YouTube video, I fell in love with it. Such a gorgeous coral colour, and it’s great on it’s own. I love just wearing lipgloss, It doesn’t feel as made up as wearing lipstick on a everyday basis, and this gloss is perfect for that. It has the right amount of colour and it’s not sticky at all! LOVE IT~!

Pink Ice is a nice colour too, I actually thought of using it to mute out bold colours, when you want a to make a “look at me” lip colour more everyday wearable. I haven’t tried it for that purpose yet, as I haven’t been wearing many lipsticks at work (I’ve been sticking to lip balm at work since the A/C is so drying to my lips).  But this definitely is a beautiful colour on its own, and again not sticky.

Just a close up of the applicator. It’s a flattened doe-foot applicator, really puts on the colour well.
Close up of the microglitters in Pink Ice.
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick- Peach; Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain in Twilight and Passion:
I haven’t tried this lipstick on my lips actually, not feeling it at the moment, but it’s great to have in my collection for different looks. The formula is really soft and feels very moisturising when i swatched it on my hand. How ever, the colour’s a bit sheer in my opinion, but that may be the fact that it’s such a light colour.

Of these lipstains, I personally own Passion (Twilight’s my sister’s), and I really like the colour. the First time I tried it, I totally overdosed on the colour, probably due to my poor lighting. A note to remember, these are VERY DRYING. I was in A/C a lot the first time I tried this and since I forgot my lipbalm, I was in a real dilemma. I practically licked it off until I had no more on my lips. Not pretty LOL. Since that time, I’ve moisturiser before and after the application, but I think I may moistuurise a bit too much prior, because I never get back a colour as intense as the first day. I really don’t want my lips to be chapped (I usually pat off  the balm but that doesnt seem to work).
Any suggestions for this would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
Passion is a bright pink, kind of a barbie pink but not as outrageous unless you overdose like I did lol. While Twilight is a subdued wine red.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Raisin Rage, Black Cherry & Va Va Violet:
I la la love these lipsticks. All are very pigmented and moisturising. I personally own Black Cherry and I have been wearing that like crazy, Love it! You might remember it from my haul video for these products.  The colours are nice and deep with just one swipe. It totally amazed me!
Va Va Violet is a lovely deep blue-toned purple.. or violet as the name suggests lol, While Raisin Rage would make a great everyday lip colour, a nice raspberry rose. Finally Black Cherry is a wine red, but  way more vibrant than the Lipstain above in Twilight.

Hope it wasn’t too much of a photo overload! But I wanted to make sure you could see all the colours. I always check other blogs for swatches of products I’m thinking of buying. It’s very helpful.
Have a fabulous New Year and have it safely!!
XOXO

Huge make up haul! (Duty-free day!)

Hey all! This post is going to me very picture-loaded! Iwent shopping on Duty-free Day (9th December), and believe me when I say that was the best thing for some one like me who was always eyeing the cosmetics in Cave Shepherd. I didn’t splurge on M.A.C. or any of the department store brands available in store, but instead drifted towards the Revlon products. Some awesome lip products I had heard many gurus rave about. (I still don’t think I’m ready to completely step into M.A.C, especially not with the prices here lol).

I planned ahead and went to town a day earlier, so I could take into account the available items and the prices. I was extremely excited about the whole thing from the Monday I heard about it. Of course I made my list of stuff so I didn’t forget anything and checked swatches online. That’s always a good idea when you’re going out shopping for new make up.

The lines were long in Cave Shepherd despite leaving home early (arriving around 10 a.m. I think), but I braved the wait for the love of make up and bargains! Onto the HAUL! All Swatches of lip products will be included in another post.

The night before, my sister and I strategised and finalised our shopping lists haha. Talk about crazy make-up lovers. She also had a couple extra Lorac make up products lying around and asked if I wanted some. Of course I said YES, what a great way to expand my collection :). Above in the first picture is the Lorac Baked Satin eyeshadow in Posh (beige) and Chic (white). Iam really loving chic, perfect highlight or great for my shimmery neutral eye. As well as the Lorac On-Scene Duo in Champagne and Caviar, it’s a nice highlighter-eyeliner shing-ding. (More on that in another post)

Lorac Lotsa Lip Plumping lipgloss in Foxy & Trixy:

Duty- Free Deals!

Revlon Colorbrust Lipgloss in Papaya & Pink Ice: $21.00 BDS

A bit blurry but you see the names.
Closer look at the colours

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick- Peach: ~$20.00 BDS
I was looking for a nice coral colour (as with Papaya above), I have way too many pinks, and I really wanted to expand my collection.

Love the packaging on this, very sleek and sophisticated.

Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain in Twilight (my sister’s) and Passion (mine): ~$18.00BDS
I’ve tried this already, and it’s really easy to overdose on the colour if you dont have good lighting, I’ve definitely made that mistake. Also you need to moisturise if in cold weather with these, I was at work and the air conditioning was totally drying me out and I forgot my lip balm, ended up licking it all off in 3 hours hahah.

Felt tip applicators much like markers. it’s like drawing on your lips!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Raisin Rage, Black Cherry & Va Va Violet: ~$19.00BDS
We choose some really vampy dark colours, the one I picked out specifically was Black berry, that was the perfect in between colour for me. My sister looks way better with darker lip colours than me. and I think she really likes Va Va Violet which I suggested. (Loved the name haha).

Clinique Dramatically different Moisturising Gel: ~$24.50
Now as many might remember I had the Garnier Nutritioniste Refreshing Gel-cream (condensed name haha). It was actually a really nice moistuirser, love that it was a gel so it wasn’t very heavy. But instead of buying it over, I took advantage of the deal as the Clinique moisturiser would be around the same price. I wanted to try it out since I had heard about gel moisturisers in the Summer, so this was my chance to get  an equal amount of cream from a department store brand, for the same price as a similarly sized drugstore one. YAY for experimentation, I hope it works just as well or even better!

(Not Duty-free but still awesome)
Guess what else I also found while browsing? NYC Sunny Bronzer! I’ve been hearing about this for THE longest time on YouTube, so I picked one up while I was in Collin’s Pharmacy, along with the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in 350 (Caramel) that I wanted to try for quite some time. Also picked up a new mascara, the Maybelline Great Lash Big and a Bodico foundation brush. All this time I’ve been applying foundation with my fingers, but I think it was about time to get an actual brush haha.
I didn’t take separate pictures of those, because this post would go on forever!  but everything is in the first two photos.
Would you believe this? But what girl doesn’t have a pair of tweezers? Apparently I didn’t, so I also picked up a cute set which had a girl imprinted into the handles. I love it, and I’m going to use it to apply lashes.  Also picked up some lash glue from Diamond Girl Beauty Supply by Sassi, tested a drop on my hand and it’s pretty good. Dries nice and clear is the brush on type. (BTW Adele Tutorial will be coming soon, I finally have the lashes, glue, tweezers, and the eye make up! YAY!)

Disclaimer: All this stuff unless otherwise stated was bought with my own money.
Here ends my haul, I haven’t shown any swatches in this post because that would take forever, but I hope you enjoyed and look out for the post with swatches, as well as the Holiday gift guide for your loved one. I think I have 2 more instalments for each and I will try to get them up before Wednesday next week. We’ll see how it goes! (There should also be a video on this too, so look out for it!)

Happy Holiday Shopping!

XOXO

OMGHHKP! Yum yum Candy for me!

I am suppppper excited! I cannot say it enough how much happy I am about this post. GUESS WHAT??

I got CANDY YUM YUM from the M.A.C. Quite Cute Collection! It’s a beautiful neon pink lipstick, yes I did say NEON! I fell in love with this lipstick after Leesha (xSparkage) have reviewed and done swatches on them for both her blog and YouTube. You can find the blog post here.

As the M.A.C. website describes it, Candy Yum Yum is a Matte Neon Pink lipstick. It retails for $14.50USD on the official M.A.C. website, however it is currently sold out. My sister actually bought it from a friend of hers for about $36.00BDS, who had a couple pieces from the collection.

I am very happy and impressed by the colour, it goes well with dark skitones as well as lighter ones (as seen on xSparkage). If you’re looking for a more stand-out colour and you don’t prefer red, this is definitely for you. It warms up to your skintone.

I was so excited when my sister brought it home that we tried it out before taking pictures hahah, such is life. The sad thing is however, is that I think the heat in Barbados is causing it to “sweat” so it has to be stored in a cool place, but that was just tonight. We’ll see how much sweating it does.

So the moment you’ve been waiting for, the pictures and swatches! (Let me note, the lipstick is slightly less bright in colour than shown here when on the lips, it is possible that the flash could have affected the colour. It is still a very beautiful and striking colour.)

Hiding in the packing…
A gorgeous Neon PINK!

This is exactly what I said about the “sweating”, it’s really hot in Barbados!

Swatched on my hand
Using my sister as a lipstick model haha!
This is without lip liner or base.
GORGEOUS!

There you have it, the lovely “Candy Yum Yum”, just scrumptious!

XOXO
